James Martin to judge National BBQ Championships
Chef James Martin will be heading up judging of the Amateur BBQ Championships at Laverstoke Park Farm’s Field to Fork Festival on Saturday 30th July, on the final weekend of The Hampshire Food Festival.
The Laverstoke Park Farm Field to Fork Festival, in association with Sainsbury’s, combines county show with food festival and features the Professional and Amateur British BBQ Championships - in partnership with Weber BBQs.
On Saturday 30th July, BBQ enthusiasts take to the coals to impress James Martin’s panel of BBQ aficionados. Sunday 31st July sees a stellar line up restaurants – fresh from round one at Taste of London - battle it out to impress some of the UK’s most feared food critics, refereed by Nigel Barden.
Visitors get to experience life on the UK’s leading biodynamic and organic farm with tours of the farm, butchery demos, sausage making demos and bread making workshops, a market featuring speciality food producers, buffalo and hog spit roasts, chef demos, and the opportunity to see how Laverstoke make their buffalo mozzarella and ice cream along with much, much more.
After all that activity, watch the BBQ amateurs prove their prowess on the BBQs or take in the nail-biting finale of the British BBQ Championships.
See the original 18 chefs and restaurants, which include Atul Kochhar, Tristan Welch, Henry Harris, Maze Grill, Paul Merret, Gaucho Grill, Salt Yard, Cinnamon Kitchen, Iberica, The Gun, Le Pont de la Tour and Butlers Wharf Chophouse, become 9 after battling it out at Taste of London, Regents Park.
At the Laverstoke final they will be joined by last year’s winner Bruno Loubet. All 10 will go head to head in a bid to impress the judging panel which includes Charles Campion, Xanthe Clay, Lucus Hollweg & Cloe Scott-Moncrieff and take the title - British BBQ Champion 2011.
Visitors can even get BBQing themselves, with chefs on hand to assist with tips and techniques. Laverstoke’s award winning meats will be available to purchase on the day (and in advance at www.fieldtoforkfestival.co.uk) ready for all alfresco chefs to get creative on the communal BBQs.
