About Sunnyfields

Sunnyfields is a family business owned and run by Ian and Louise Nelson. Started in 1987 it is one of the longest established organic businesses in the UK. It is committed to organic, local production and operating its business in the most environmentally sensitive way possible. Sunnyfields has been certified organic by the Soil Association since 1987 as both a producer and processor. Ian, Louise and staff have a vast knowledge of organic production and all the products they produce and sell.

Organic food and farming has in the early twenty first century started to move towards mass market penetration, this is already upsetting the balance of organic production. Organic farming is about a farming system and is not about grabbing a plastic bag of organic carrots as you hurtle around your local big name supermarket. It is about freshness, buying local, food miles, minimal packaging, people, standards, ethics and product range. Sunnyfields started for these reasons and will continue to follow them - we are a real organic trading company with food, farming and customer service at its heart.

There are six main parts to Sunnyfields:

  • A farm growing a wide range of fruits, vegetables and herbs on a field scale and in glasshouses and polytunnels. This means that we can supply the freshest produce possible - direct from field to plate.
  • A farm shop open every day selling a wide range of goods including fresh produce, wholefoods, special diet foods, meat, dairy, alcoholic drinks and household products.
  • Attending farmers' markets in the local area during the Summer and Autumn, selling a select range of our own farm grown food.
  • A saturday farmers' market held here at Sunnyfields, that is attended by many farmers and producers from around Hampshire and the New Forest.
  • A home delivery service and box scheme delivering to most parts of Hampshire and other areas including parts of Dorset, Surrey, and Greater London, supplying fresh produce, wholefoods, special diet foods, meat, dairy, alcoholic drinks and household products.
  • Restaurants supplying a wide range of specialist herbs, vegetables and fruit, fresh from the field.
  • Wholesale supplying a range of other retailers including, farm shops, box schemes, wholesale markets, dedicated organic retailers and caterers.

Between twenty to eighty staff work at Sunnyfields depending on the time of year in a range of jobs from field work, through to packing, retailing, delivery and office work
