Jersey Royal Potatoes

The first new potato of the season, the Jersey Royal holds a deserved reputation for being the prince of potatoes, with a distinctive flavour and quality that deserves being the focus of your meal, not just an accompaniment. The Jersey Royal is the only fresh British product that has the protection of 'designation of orgin' as many wines and cheeses have, so you know that every Jersey Royal has come from the fertile soil and warmer climate of Jersey that give is its distinctive taste. Waxy rather than floury, they are perfectly suited to salads.
Tips
- Perfect for breakfast - sautee some cooked Jersey Royals with bacon, spring onions, a few chilli flakes, plum tomatos and top with a poached egg and chopped parsley. Fantastic.
- Do not peel Jersey Royals, simply rub any flaky skin from the surface
- Potatoes are a low fat and healthy ingredient to any meal - a great source of fibre and, with the skins on, vitamin C and B as well.
- If possible, store them in a paper bag or something that allows them to breathe in a cool, dark and dry cupboard.
- Serve with a knob of butter and some chopped fresh mint
